Yoshie Mizuno

About the artist:

Yoshie Mizuno grew up in Japan and in 1989 settled with her husband in Darwin, where they remained for 14 years, before recently moving to Cairns.

In 1993 Mizuno began a visual arts course at Darwin’s Charles Darwin University and in 2004 completed a Master of Fine Arts at the same university.

About the work:

The Australian landscape has made a huge impact on Yoshie Mizuno. She has been particularly drawn to the uniqueness of northern Australia.

Although she previously rejected Zen Buddhism as a painful imposition on her childhood, the artist now finds herself increasingly drawn towards Japanese aesthetics such as simplicity and modest beauty, which have their basis in Zen Buddhism.
